Installation of Power Generators

About project

SM Industry successfully delivered and installed four generator sets (each consisting of a 90-ton engine and a 35-ton generator) for the energy facility Termoficare Oradea in Romania. The project involved complex heavy equipment handling, precise positioning, and coordination with other contractors at a site still under construction. The main challenge was executing precise installation inside a building under development, which required tailored access solutions and synchronization of multiple lifting and positioning systems. A detailed Work Execution Plan (WEP) was prepared beforehand, and each team member was thoroughly briefed before operations.

Scope of work:
Unloading of 4 engines (90 tons each) and 4 generators (35 tons each) from trailers.
Transport and positioning of generator sets to the installation site.
Mechanical alignment and connection of engines and generators.
Installation of the entire system on vibration isolation mounts.
Use of a hydraulic gantry system, cranes, and roller skates for accurate in-building maneuvering.
Manual final positioning using hoisting and pulling mechanisms.
